Bega clock tower repairs this month

The Dr Evershed Memorial Clock in Bega will be ticking away and telling the time again after repair works scheduled for Monday and Tuesday 23/24 January.

Tuesday 10 January 2017 The Bega clock tower will be working again soon thanks to repairs scheduled in January.

The Dr Evershed Memorial Clock in Bega will be ticking away and telling the time again after repair works scheduled for Monday and Tuesday 23/24 January.

Repair works will run from 7am to 4pm on each day, and access from Carp Street into Gipps Street will be closed on these days.

Access to Club Bega, the Commercial Hotel bottle shop drive through, the Gipps Street carpark and other Gipps Street properties and businesses will be from Bega Street during these times.

Signage will be in place to inform road users and pedestrians, and traffic control will direct pedestrians around the work area.

The master clock system will be fully replaced, following a full custom build by one of only a few master clock builders still working in Australia.

A battery back-up system with a high frequency quartz controller for precision timekeeping will form part of the new clock, and after repairs it will automatically change for daylight saving time.

Many of the components have been skilfully built by hand, including the dial train which houses the gear box attached to the clock hands.

For more information on the repairs call Bega Valley Shire Council on 6499 2222.
