Tree removal in Bega Park and pool
Bega Valley Shire Council will remove three trees and undertake maintenance pruning within Bega Park and the adjoining Bega Pool next week due to safety concerns.

Bega Valley Shire Council will remove three trees and undertake maintenance pruning within Bega Park and the adjoining Bega Pool next week due to safety concerns.
Council’s Recreation Assets Officer, John Turville, said Council appreciates the value of trees particularly within parkland settings; however the time has come to reduce the risk these long standing trees pose.
“Unfortunately ongoing management is not always practical and ultimately we need to keep people’s safety at the front of our minds.
“Assessments of the trees undertaken by a qualified arborist and Council staff have determined the level of risk these trees represent.
“Three trees have been earmarked for removal; two within Bega Park and one tree within the grounds of Bega Pool.
“The timber from one of the trees (a Stone Pine that recently died) will be provided to the Eden Men’s Shed for their use in making timber furniture for the local community.
“This is a great outcome to enable the community to reuse this natural resource for the benefit of all residents and visitors to the Bega Valley region,” Mr Turville said.
Removal of the trees will start on 6 February by a qualified and experienced team of arborists, with the stumps ground after their removal.
Dead wooding and minor pruning of some of the other trees within the park and pool areas will follow once the three trees have been removed.
