Pambula’s Longstocking Brewery owner, Peter Caldwell is not one to look a gift horse in the mouth; and when he gets that gift, he’s willing to share the ‘how’ with fellow small businesses across the Bega Valley.
Peter, a member of the Pambula Business Chamber, was at the announcement event in Merimbula when NSW Deputy Premier, John Barilaro revealed the new $10,000 grant for small businesses affected by the bushfire crisis.
As soon as it was available online, he applied and immediately receive a successful notice, followed by an email stating it would be in his business bank account within five days.
“It took me 12 minutes to fill out the form online and I was told I was successful shortly after I pressed send,” Peter said.
“I applied on Monday and I will have the funds in the bank next week, which I will use as working capital to keep my business alive.”
To be eligible for the $10,000 grant, small businesses must have experienced a 40% drop in revenue over a three-month period, compared to the previous year, as a result of the bushfires.
“My revenue dropped 48% over the last three months, compared to the same time last year,” Peter said.
“An example of that - something people can relate to –is that in the first two weeks of January last year we made $66,000, whereas for the same period this year we made $6,000.”
Peter has put together a ‘Quick Reference Guide’ on how to apply for the grant, to share with other small businesses affected by the bushfire crisis.
“This grant form was so easy to fill in, I felt the need to share my success,” he said.
“I encourage all small businesses in the Bega Valley to apply for the grant, and if you need help, get in contact with me and I’ll send you my guide.”
Peter has graciously allowed the guide to be shared from the Bega Valley Shire Council website.
