Bega Valley youth invited to get creative with technology using MakerSpace
Council has partnered with local software engineering company, 2pi Software, to launch a series of free makerspace sessions in the Bega Youth Space from Monday 22 February.

Bega Valley Shire Council has partnered with local software engineering company, 2pi Software, to launch a series of free makerspace sessions in the Bega Youth Space from Monday 22 February.
Bega MakerSpace will offer young people the opportunity to get hands-on and creative with digital music, 3D printers, 3D modelling pens, programming, game development, virtual reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence, animation and robotics.
“A makerspace is a place where people are able to make things,” Council’s Library Services Coordinator, Megan Jordan-Jones said.
“Bega MakerSpace is where our young people can gather to create, invent, tinker, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials.
“It will allow students and young people to explore technology in a way that reflects their varied interests and strengths.
“They’ll be able to expand their skills in technology, try technology they wouldn’t normally be exposed to or simply open up their creativity through a variety of projects.”
Bega MakerSpace sessions for school children (8-18 years) will run on Mondays from 3:30pm to 6:30pm, and youth sessions (up to 25 years) will run on Mondays and Thursdays from 12pm to 3pm, during the school term.
As spaces for each session are limited due to COVID restrictions, young people need to register via Eventbrite.
Member for Bega, Andrew Constance said the funding allocated to this project from the Stronger Country Communities Fund- youth stream, is exactly what the NSW Government hoped to achieve through the program.
“The tech world is evolving, and we have to take our youth to the next level of education and experimentation; fortunately the Bega Valley has the people to lead it,” Mr Constance said.
“For our youth to have access to a program of this calibre in a regional area is fantastic and I hope those with an interest sign on, as this is an opportunity not to be missed.”
