Council's summer break operations and new COVID procedures

MEDIA RELEASE 2021 - Council will close at 4.30pm on Thursday 23 December 2021 and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Bega Valley Shire Council will close at 4.30pm on Thursday 23 December 2021 and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Customer Service phones will be diverted to our After Hours service during this time.

Libraries, the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre and the Bega Valley Regional Learning Centre will also close from 4.30pm on Thursday 23 December 2021 and reopen on Tuesday 4 January 2022.

Children’s Services: The last day for children to attend is Thursday 16 December 2021 and the first day back is Tuesday 11 January 2022. For further details on return dates for Pre-school and After School Care services, please contact your centre.

Council-managed Swimming Pools (Sapphire Aquatic Centre Pambula, Bemboka, Candelo and Eden) will close at 5pm on Friday 24 December. They will remain closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and reopen on Monday 27 December. There will be no early morning hours between Christmas and New Year.

Cobargo pool will close on Christmas day and open on Boxing Day between 12pm and 5pm. There will be no early mornings between Christmas and New Year.

Bega pool will be closed on Christmas Day and the opening hours from Boxing Day onwards vary, so please check their Facebook page for schedules.

Please check with your local pool to confirm hours or changes to schedules.

All Waste Transfer Stations will close on Christmas Day but will continue to operate on the other public holidays including Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Cleanaway kerbside collection will continue as normal. For further information, go to our Opening Hours webpage.

The Bega Valley Bushfire Recovery Support Service will be closed from Friday 24 December 2021 and reopen Tuesday 4 January 2022. If bushfire recovery support is required during this period, call (02) 6499 2345; leave a message and one of our case workers will be in touch.

If you need assistance with urgent temporary housing, please phone Link2Home 1800 152 152. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.

Easing of COVID restrictions

Reduced COVID restrictions are now in place which means proof of vaccination will no longer be required for people entering Council premises.

However, people must still use the QR Code Check-in at our Children’s Services locations, for functions at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre and the Sapphire Aquatic Centre’s gym.

Our front-of-house hospitality staff will wear masks indoors and protective screens will continue to be used in public facing areas such as Customer Service, libraries and the front counter of the Sapphire Aquatic Centre.
