Under the NSW Government’s COVID-19 stimulus program, Bega Valley Shire Council was awarded $7.81 million (including GST) to contribute towards the wharf restoration and upgrade of the Tathra Wharf and headland precinct.

The project will be completed in two separate portions:

In October 2021 stakeholder consultation was undertaken to inform a precinct plan for the Tathra headland and a Stakeholder Consultation Report was produced documenting the process. A Site Analysis Plan was also developed that documented the proposed opportunities and constraints in relation to heritage, community profile, land tenure, destinations and activities, movement (road, cycle and pedestrian) network, landscape character, and stormwater.

In December 2021 a Draft Precinct Plan for the Tathra Wharf and headland was finalised. It aims to achieve the following key benefits:

  • enhanced visitor access by improving walkable access (pedestrians, cyclists) to Tathra Wharf from the upper commercial area and the broader headland precinct
  • enhanced visitor safety by improving traffic circulation and parking arrangements for cars and buses
  • enhanced visitor experience by providing better connectivity, wayfinding and signage connecting visitors to the destinations and attractions.
