Bega Valley Shire Council was advised today that we are fit for the future and will stand alone as previously recommended. Bega Valley is not part of the proposed boundary adjustments released by the NSW State Government. We now can take advantage of a number of programs available to fit councils.
Mergers across the 152 councils in New South Wales have left the State with 112 newly merged or existing councils. To put it into perspective, Sydney’s councils are proposed to reduce from 43 to 25. Regionally, it is proposed that 109 councils reduce to 87.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has also been considered fit for the future and will stand-alone. Bega Valley and Eurobodalla Shire Councils have recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. In the south east of the State we are the only two councils to be left untouched in the proposed boundary adjustments.
