Award-winning historian Dr Ian Hoskins will be at Eden library on Saturday 12 December as part of Bega Valley Shire Library’s Conversation series.
Dr Hoskins has taught history at various Sydney universities, curated numerous exhibitions at the Powerhouse Museum and written about landscapes and history including several contributions to the online ‘Dictionary of Sydney.’
Dr Hoskins will give a talk exploring our complex relationship to the NSW coast through maps, artworks and photographs at 10am, followed by a writing workshop.
The writing workshop is for anyone who is interested in writing history as either fiction or non-fiction.
Participants are encouraged to bring a photograph of any particular place or object that is central to their project.
Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker, said that Dr Hoskins is an award-winning historian with a great deal of research and writing experience.
“We are thrilled that Dr Hoskins has agreed to visit our part of the coast and share his expertise with locals in this rare opportunity,” he said.
“Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their projects with others and explore research techniques, writing style, audience, the significance of local history and the issue of ‘historical truth’ in writing,” Mr Baker said.
The free workshop starts at 11.30am with a light lunch provided.
Places are limited so it is vital to book online at www.begavalleyshirelibrary.eventbrite.com.au or phone Eden library on 6499 2453.
