The intersection of Wallaga Lake Road and Cobargo-Bermagui Road near Bermagui will be upgraded this financial year following a successful Bega Valley Shire Council grant application.
With crash data pointing to the need for risk reduction measures to be implemented at the site, Council has secured $60,650 under the NSW Government’s Safer Roads Program.
The Safer Roads Program is a key initiative of the NSW Road Safety Strategy, aiming to make state roads safer and reduce crashes on the road network. This program provides treatments where there are clusters of crashes on local and regional roads. This is achieved by implementing engineering treatments and countermeasures.
The Wallaga Lake Road and Cobargo-Bermagui Road intersection project will involve moving the hold line forward, kerb extensions and upgrading the intersection from a ‘Give Way’ to a ‘Stop’ sign.
The Director of Transport and Utilities, Terry Dodds, said Council’s commitment to improving our roads network remains strong, with a number of key projects planned.
“It is critical that we seek and are able to access external funding to not only continue to provide existing services at current levels into the future, but undertake improvements to our roads infrastructure,” Mr Dodds said.
“Obviously safety is always at the forefront of our thinking when considering our roads network and the successful completion of this project at Bermagui will greatly improve the functionality of the intersection in question.”
