Season ends for outdoor pools

The 2016-2017 Outdoor Swimming Pool Season will draw to a close on Friday 31 March.

Things got off to a slow start this year, with seasonal weather keeping air and pool temperatures lower than average in comparison to previous seasons.

However, as the school holidays approached in December, the weather began to heat up, swimming pool temperatures rose and attendances began to increase.

The season saw a variety of existing and new programs run at swimming pools across the Shire.

Highlights for the summer season included;

  • The annual Bemboka Triathlon, organised by the Friends of Bemboka, entering its third year.
  • NSW Department of Education School swimming programs at all Shire pools.
  • Sporting Schools visited Bemboka Primary for students to participate in water polo activities at the Bemboka Pool with Australian Olympic water polo players.
  • Increases in participants learning to swim across the Shire; particularly at Bega, Cobargo and Sapphire Aquatic Centre.
  • More than 15 school swimming carnivals were held across the Shire, including eight held at Candelo Pool alone.
  • Gen-I’s successful ‘Movie in the Moonlight’ event held at the Eden Swimming Pool, with over 160 people attending on the night.
  • Business house relays were organised and run by swimming clubs at Bega, Cobargo and Eden.

These highlights have been a credit to the facility operators, staff, user groups and customers.

Sapphire Aquatic Centre will continue to operate as normal and people are reminded to be aware of the following changes to opening hours over the Easter School Holiday period:

  • Good Friday 14 April - Closed
  • Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 15-17 April – open from 10am to 5pm
  • Anzac Day 25 April – open from 1pm to 5pm
