Council's Christmas-New Year closure

Over Christmas and New Year, most Council's offices and services will be affected by closures or a change in opening hours as summarised below.


Christmas plants.

Bega Valley Shire Council will close at 4.30pm on Friday 18 December 2020, returning on Monday 4 January 2021.

Customer Service phones will be diverted to our After Hours service during this time.

Waste Transfer Stations

25 December  -  Christmas DayAll Transfer Stations are closed.    

Waste Transfer Stations will continue to operate on the other public holidays including Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Cleanaway kerbside collection will continue to operate on Christmas day and New Years day. Residents should place their bins out on the kerbside the night before as they normally would.

Children’s Services

Pre-school and After School Care dates align with local public school dates.

Long Day Care has a shorter closure period.

Last Day for children in 2020 is Thursday 17 December (full day, all services)

  • First Day in 2021 for staff is Monday 11 January
  • First Day in 2021 for Long Day Care is Tuesday 12 January
  • First Day in 2021 for Pre-school is Wednesday 27 January
  • First Day in 2021 for After School Care is Wednesday 27 January
  • First Day in 2021 for Sapphire Mobile Pre-school is Wednesday 27 January

These dates will result in a three-week closure period for Children’s Services staff (Monday 21 December 2020 to Friday 8 January 2021).

Libraries will close on Saturday 19 December and reopen on 4 January 2021. For further information and to see what activities are planned for the summer break, go to the Bega Valley Shire Library website.

Brighter Futures, Aging and Disability, Community Development and Engagement Services will close at 4.30pm on Friday 18 December 2020 and reopen Monday 4 January 2021.

Bega Valley Regional Gallery will close at 4.30pm Friday 18 December 2020 and reopen Monday 4 January 2021. For further information and to find out what's on, go to the BVRG website.

Council-managed Swimming Pools will close at 5pm on Tuesday 24 December, close Christmas Day and reopen on 26 December. Please check with your local pool for public holiday opening hours or Council’s website.

Residential building inspections will not be carried out during Council’s Christmas closure. The last residential building inspection will be completed by midday on 18 December. Please take this into consideration when planning your works and booking inspections.

The last building inspection will be carried out at midday on Friday 18 December. Inspections for Monday 4 January must be booked prior to 18 December 2020.

Bookings made in the week commencing 14 December may incur delays in formal paperwork, please speak to us if this is of concern to you. Where possible please book your inspections in advance online. For any urgent enquiries, call our Building Inspections direct line on 0488 709 911.

The Bega Valley Bushfire Recovery Support Service will be closed from Monday 21 December 2020 and reopen Monday 4 January 2021.

If you require Mental Health support, please call the 24-hour Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511.

If you need assistance with urgent temporary housing, please phone Link2home 1800 152 152. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. From 9am to 10pm daily, Link2home provides callers with information, assessments and referrals to homelessness support and accommodation services across NSW. Between 10pm and 9am, Link2home provides information and assessment only and will refer people to emergency services if required. Referral to accommodation and support services is not possible during these hours.
