Update for road closure on Big Jack Mountain Road

Bega Valley Shire Council advises repair works on Big Jack Mountain Road have been delayed.

2 February 2024

Bega Valley Shire Council advises repair works on Big Jack Mountain Road have been delayed.

Local contractors have been unable to continue with works due to the unexpected movement of large boulders within the upper embankment.

The stability of the embankment requires further investigation and the road will remain closed until works are completed following a geotechnical assessment.

Road users are advised to detour via Mount Darragh Road for access to Cathcart, and via Wyndham for access to Rocky Hall.

This is disappointing news for the community, however safety is Council’s first consideration.

Council thanks the local community for their patience and will provide regular updates as the investigation and works proceed.

Assistance for these works is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
