A dynamic and vibrant exhibition with strong connections to Australian art royalty will debut at the Bega Valley Regional Gallery early next month.

‘The Art of Dinosaur Designs’ is an exciting new exhibition from Sydney artists Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy.

Louise, the daughter of the renowned John Olson, and Melbourne born Stephen, have been partners in life and art since they met at the University of NSW more than 30 years ago.

This exhibition features a series of large-scale sculptural forms that celebrate the pair’s creative partnership, and a career that started at the Paddington Markets and now spans the globe including stores in New York and London.

Debuting at Bega Valley Regional Gallery, the show is a colourful fusion of art, design and fashion, referencing Olsen and Ormandy’s design label Dinosaur Designs.

What started as and still includes distinctive resin-based jewellery and homewares, has evolved into impressive sculptural pieces that enliven any space.

One of the 15 pieces featured is the colourful and energetic Totem (2016), an iconic set of life-sized totems in the artists’ signature resin.

“We’re now at a point where we’ve mastered our techniques, but we are constantly surprised by the possibilities that arise from working with resin,” Ms Olsen said.

“It’s a never ending exploration where we’re constantly inspired by nature,” she said.

Mr Ormandy said, “We tackle each project the way you would tackle a painting or a drawing, really following your eye and allowing those accidents and developments to happen.”

The Art of Dinosaur Designs is born out of the Bega Valley Regional Gallery, with plans underway to tour the exhibition to regional galleries across Australia.

Iain Dawson, Director of the Gallery said, “Cultural tourism is growing in Australia and the Bega Valley Regional Gallery sees itself as a small, but perfectly formed, player in that space.”

The Art of Dinosaur Designs runs October 14 until December 3. The Gallery is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and Saturday 9.00am till 12.00 midday and entry is free.
