Plans to build a Bunnings store in the Bega Valley have been halted with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment rejecting an application to rezone land at Tura Beach.
Thursday 25 August 2016
Plans to build a Bunnings store in the Bega Valley have been halted with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment rejecting an application to rezone land at Tura Beach.
Two blocks at the entry of Tura Beach, on the corner of Sapphire Coast and Tura Beach Drive have been the subject of interest since 2012.
Bega Valley Shire Council has twice endorsed the rezoning of the land to allow Bunnings to further explore its options and draft a development application.
Council forwarded its second letter supporting the rezoning of the land from 1C Rural Small Holdings to a B5 Business Development Zone in April.
The final decision rests with the Department because it is responsible for all land zoning matters across NSW.
In rejecting the rezoning the Department pointed to:
The Department’s decision will be conveyed to the new Council for consideration. The owners of the land can also seek a further review directly with the NSW Department of Planning.
There are already a number of suitably zoned sites in the Shire that would support a development of this nature, Bega Valley Shire Council is keen to work with the proponents and advance the idea for the benefit of the community.
The planning proposal and detailed decision is available on the Department’s website.
