Bega to Yellow Pinch Dam Water Transfer Pipeline

The Bega to Yellow Pinch Water Transfer Pipeline is being developed by the Bega Valley Shire Council in collaboration with the NSW Department of Commerce.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • To improve the water supply security of the existing Tantawanglo-Kiah water supply system that supplies water to the urban areas in the south of the Bega Valley Shire including Candelo, Wolumla, Merimbula, Tura Beach, Pambula, Pambula Beach and Eden.

  • To lessen extraction of water from Tantawanglo Creek and the Kiah Borefield during low stream flows by connecting a new source of water to the system with capacity to extract water during higher, less environmentally sensitive stream flows at Bega.

  • To enhance operational flexibility in the supply of water from the sources and dams to customers.

See below for further information or you can contact Joshua Wellington of nghenvironmental on (02) 6492 8311, email pipeline@nghenvironmental.com.au or by post at PO Box 470, Bega NSW 2550.

Latest news - October 2009

The project is currently in the Pre-tender phase with construction commencement expected in the first half of 2010. Planning approval for the project was gained on 20 October 2009

Landowners directly affected by the pipeline on their property have been contacted and site specific issues associated with the construction work and the location of the easement within the private property identified.  Construction leases for affected property owners will be issued from October.

An expression of interest process for the Construction of the pipeline is in progress.  19 companies submitted an expression of interest, with Council to resolve the three preferred Contractors who will take part in an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process prior to tendering.
