About the Lifeguard Service

Bega Valley Lifeguard Service is responsible for the surveillance of the largest stretch of council patrolled coastline in Australia.  Bega Valley Shire's coastline stretches over 223 kilometres which amounts to one eighth of New South Wales entire coast.

Lifeguards patrol seven beaches on the Sapphire Coast.

These are:

Bermagui Area

Merimbula Area

Tathra Area

Pambula Area

Eden Area

Council employs eighteen lifeguards over the Christmas holiday period (mostly from the ranks of Surf Life Saving Association volunteers).

Surf Life Saving Clubs are located at Bermagui, Tathra and Pambula Beaches.  Volunteer work at these clubs forms an integral part of surf rescue capabilities on our coastline.

Bega Valley Lifeguard Service  is a proud member of the Australian Professional Ocean Lifeguard Association.  It provides best practice rescue and medical services to the bathing public, with a vision "To be an Australian Leader in Beach and Water Safety Services".
